If you want to up your game and learn all about the world craps bet, you’re in the right place. Professional dice influencer Bill Collins has put together a comprehensive guide.

In this guide, Bill shares his expert insights and tips on everything you need to know about world bet craps, including:

Whether you're a seasoned craps player or just starting out, this guide is sure to be an invaluable resource that will help you take your game to the next level.

Let's get started!

What is the Craps World Bet? (A.k.a. Whirl Bet)

The World Bet in craps is a combination of the horn bet (2, 3, 11, or 12) and Any-7 bet, with 4/5 of the bet on a horn number rolling and the other 1/5 of the bet on a 7 rolling.

The outcome of the World bet is always resolved on the next dice roll after the wager is made.

You are essentially betting that a box number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10) will NOT be rolled next.

The Individual Bets Included in the World Bet

The horn bet part of the World bet is won when 2, 3, 11, or 12 rolls on the next toss of the dice.

The Any 7 bet part of the World bet is kind of a hedge against the 7 rolling,

When the 7 does roll on the next roll, the bet has deemed a tie, as winnings on the 7 equal losses on the horn bet part when a 7 rolls.

When a decision is reached, the losing part of the World bet is deducted from the winnings before they are paid.

How to Make the World Bet on the Craps Table

A World bet is made by tossing your bet to the stickman when it's your turn, telling him you are making a horn bet.

He will put your chips on the World bet in the center of the table so that he knows who is making that bet so that you can be paid off correctly on a win.

Odds and Payouts

There are only 6 ways to win the World bet (one way each to roll a winning 2 or 12, along with two ways each to roll a winning 3 or 11), versus 24 ways to lose that bet (when any point number 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 rolls).

There are 6 ways to tie by rolling the number 7.

The odds of winning a world bet are 1-to-4, (six winners versus 24 losers) against the bettor winning.

The payouts on 2 and 12 winning are 30-to-1, but the losing bets on the three losing horn number bets and Any-7 parts of the bet is deducted from the winnings.

The payoffs on 3 and 11 winning are 15-to-1, but the losing bets on the three losing horn number bets and Any-7 part of the bet is deducted from the winnings.

The House Edge on the World Bet

The different payoffs and losing parts being deducted on a World Bet make figuring the overall house edge on the World Bet difficult.

It is a whopping 13.33%, making it one of the worst bets on the craps table you can make.

That doesn't surprise me, considering it is two bad bets combined to make it easier for the foolish bettor to bet on both of them simultaneously.

A bright spot on the World bet might come at the few casinos paying 5-to-1 for Any 7 bets instead of the usual 4-to-1 payoff.

That would show you a small profit every time a 7 rolled with your World bet down.

Payyout for Each Bet Included in the World Bet

On a $25 World bet, if you roll:

  • 2 or 12, you get paid $130;
  • 3 or 11, you get paid $55;
  • Any 7 is a push, with your bet returned to you because half your bet won and the other half your bet lost.

Expert Advice: My Strategy for the World Bet

expert advice in craps world bet

I haven't made a World Bet in all the years I've played craps. And that's a winning strategy by not betting the World Bet.

The Risks and Rewards of the World Bet

I once saw an old timer always make the World bet on his come-out rolls and wondered why he would make that bet.

Well, after the session, I asked him about it. He spent about five minutes telling me all the payouts I've stated above, saying it is an excellent hedge bet for him to make on his come-out rolls and that it made him money by tossing sets that favored horn numbers over other numbers rolling.

Well, most of what the old timer said went over the top of my head at that time.

I just sorted, nodded, and said, "If you say so."

My advice? Approach the World Bet with caution!

That old-timer might be right. If I was ever to bet the World bet, it probably would be on my come-out rolls, to tie on 7 rolling and win on horn numbers appearing while tossing my own best dice set to make that happen more often than expected.

But, I doubt if I'd ever bet the World bet because I usually turn on and work my big bets on come-out rolls so that my big place or buy bets can win for me right out of the gate when I am the shooter.

Experience has taught me that I have very few short rolls, only tossing 25 come-out 7's over my latest logged 1,000 rolls. Those stats make working my bets a strong strategy when I am shooting.

My approach with the World Bet

I would only bet big on the World Bet if I were observing a lot of horn numbers rolling on my most recent tosses.

That might let me capitalize on those horn numbers clustering at that particular time. If I ever made the World Bet when I was not rolling horn numbers, my bet would be minimal.

Final Thoughts

Betting the World bet would make the pit boss smile broadly, and he may even label you as a thrill-seeking player that wasn't playing with a full deck.

Casinos love those players because they usually dump tons of money on the table by the time they give up on trying to win.

My advice? Check out other craps bets and strategy guides and find a long-term approach that brings you better returns.
